A Preview into the New Twitter Homepage

In support of Twitter’s refocus on “interests” versus “top tweets or trending topics”, Twitter has revealed their new homepage design. The sign-up form, login and search box have been repositioned, along with a cleaner and “less busy” design. Perhaps it’s just me, but I think the redesign looks very similar to Facebook. Looking specifically at the positioning of the sign-up form and the login area in relation to Facebook – hmm, coincidence?

As you can see, the new homepage’s language is more focused on following your interests. With this new focus, it will enable users to find what they are looking for easier. For example, if you are looking for “bloggers”, previously your search resulted in Twitter handles including the word “bloggers”. Now, a search for “bloggers” will result in people established as bloggers who don’t necessarily have the word within their handle.

Twitter has been putting forth a lot of effort to improve their web interface. Do you find yourself using the website more often as opposed to using a Twitter client? Go ahead and leave your comment below.

#newTwitter: Twitter Now Enriched Further With Multimedia Content

Are you finding that the new Twitter interface has tremendously improved? Personally, I’m really taking a liking to the new interface. This week Twitter announced the release of additional multimedia features (aside from YouTube, Flickr, Ustream and iTunes) with many more content partnerships planned within the next few months.

Below is the list Twitter just released:

• blip.tv: Watch more than 50,000 independently-produced Web TV shows.
• Instagram: View mobile photos, personalized with Instagram’s colorful filters.
• Rdio: When a subscriber Tweets out a song, Rdio members can listen to full-length songs right inside the details pane, for the first time ever. All other Twitter users will hear 30 second song previews.
• SlideShare: Read and share entire presentations, directly on Twitter.
• Dipdive: See photos, videos and new works from Dipdive's community of artists.

As Twitter continues to evolve, users can now continue to supplement their tweets with multimedia rich content. This should only further motivate you to continue to build your brand’s Twitter presence as you can provide more relevant and valuable content to your community.

Plus, let’s not forget that your Twitter presence is now becoming more important in how well you rank in regular web search.

Have you started using these features?

#TwitterTip – Who to Follow by Interests

For those of you now testing out the new Twitter web interface, one tip for growing your Twitter following is to follow other relevant Twitter accounts. Featured on the right side pane, under “Who To Follow” is a small “Browse Interest” link for following suggestions. Although this feature is easy to overlook, you will find that the “Browse Interest” feature is a very useful tool. It provides you with the ability to browse for other Twitter accounts by interests such as business, charity, deals & discounts, health, and technology to name a few.

Trying to grow your brand’s Twitter following? Try using this tool to find more targeted accounts to follow, who will find your brand’s tweets valuable. Remember, when trying to grow your following, follow additional accounts on an ongoing basis – don’t just follow thousands of accounts at once. Use this tip as an ongoing tactic.

Does this tool work well for your brand?

Behold the New Twitter.com Interface

Announced yesterday, Twitter.com will now have a new and improved look and functionality. Personally, I’m excited about this rollout as it really steps up the web interface experience. You will now have a two-pane view, with @mentions, retweets, searches, and lists on the left side of your screen. Whereas, the right side will now include media, favorites, trending topics, who recently followed you and whom you recently followed.

What is one of the neatest features unveiled about the new web interface? The fact that the new Twitter.com has a much bigger focus on the display of media-rich content. Twitter has partnered with USTREAM, Flickr and YouTube to name a few. Essentially, this content will be displayed for you right in the middle of your Twitter timeline. It seems as though Twitter is seriously attempting to take on the desktop clients now.

For those of you who use Twitter for your brand or business, this gives you even more incentive to produce media-rich content for your customers and followers. Evan Williams, Twitter CEO, stated yesterday, “Twitter.com has always been the most popular Twitter client. 78% of active users have used it in the last 30 days.” Check out the Twitter website to learn more about the new features and rollout dates.

Are you excited to use the new and improved Twitter.com? Does this entice you to use the Twitter.com platform rather than a desktop client?
