Google Chrome Browser Improvements

Earlier this month it was announced that Google’s Chrome Browser now has 200 million users and counting. While gaining continuous popularity, Google has rolled out additional features and enhancements to improve the browser.

For those of you who are new to Google Chrome or if you just want to brush up on your knowledge about the browser, check out the “New to Google Chrome” tour. You might find some useful tips like “Incognito”. Did you know that Google Chrome allows you to browse the web in a private mode? This stealthy setting is perfect for times when you need to surf the web but not have your search history, cookies etc tracked (i.e. planning a surprise office party).

Have You Checked Out Chrome Extensions?

Taking advantage of extensions for your browser of choice is a great way to customize your browsing experience. I tend to use Google Chrome, and lately have been paying more attention to the ton of extension options offered. The great thing about utilizing extensions for any browser is that you tailor your browsing experience to your own needs. Of course everyone will have their own preference on how they browse, and this gives you additional abilities to do so. There are three basic types of extensions offered with Google Chrome:

Browser Actions
These extensions add a button or icon in the upper right hand corner of your browser.
Page Actions
These extensions add an icon to your address bar for a variety of actions.
Content Scripts
These extensions add a button in the upper right hand corner of your browser which will directly interact with the pages you visit.

Click & Clean
“Deletes your browsing history, typed URLs and other tracks from your PC; allows you to clear browsing data when Chrome closes.”

This extension is great for the days when your browser has fallen ill to “lazy browser syndrome.”

Webpage Screenshot
“Fast and simple solution to save JPG screenshots of any webpage; the first extension that captures the whole page.”

This extension is a nice alternative to the “print screen” function.

Google Chrome Gaining Market Share in Browser Race

Up until around midway through December of 2009, Google Chrome had been unsuccessful in breaking into the top three most utilized web browsers worldwide. Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari have held on tight to the top three spots respectively throughout most of 2009. With a new year, however, comes a new spot for Chrome in the browser wars as it was able to overtake Safari for the coveted third position.

Not likely a coincidence, the increase in market share of Chrome came about just as a beta version of the browser for Mac and Linux computers was released. Google still has a long way to go if they intend to surpass the market share of Firefox and IE, but they are moving in the right direction.

Google Chrome 3D...April Fools!

As a daily Google Chrome user, I was excited to hear about Google Chrome with 3D. That is until I tried to print out my 3D glasses and realized there were no lenses!

Maybe I was a little more gullible than most - but the 3D web browser proved to be a success, both increasing exposure and downloads of the Google browser.

Users were prompted to download "Google Chrome with 3D" in order to bridge the gap between the 2D online world and the 3D real world. The page even features testimonials, screenshots of the browser and photos of users wearing the printable glasses.

This made the page look legitimate and resulted in a ton of downloads of the special version of Google Chrome on April 1st. As more and more people caught on to the joke, the news began to flood the blogosphere, increasing Chrome's exposure worldwide.
